Bumbershoot Supplies was grown from an intense love for vintage, coupled with a passion for jewelry making and mixed media arts. The desire to work with the most unique and the finest materials led us into the world of vintage, and the rest, as they say, is history. Bumbershoot Supplies is a family owned and operated boutique business based in beautiful Seattle, Washington. Our goal is to provide you with uniquely gorgeous materials for your creations, coupled with superior customer service. Bumbershoot Supplies was named by our daughter Emma. “Bumbershoot” is a vintage word for umbrella, and making art must be one of the best things to do on a rainy day (not that we here in Seattle would know anything about that).
Our vintage supplies come from all over the world: Cherry Brand beads from occupied Japan in their original packaging, spools of silk ribbon and sequins from France, buttons from Czechslovakia and glass cabochons from occupied Germany are just a few of the many treasures you will find at Bumbershoot Supplies. We are thrilled by the history our supplies reflect, and we invite you to check out our research about our supplies in the “History and Provenance” section of our website.
In keeping with our goal to provide stunning materials of exceptional quality, we have our own lines of antiqued brass and antiqued silver findings and charms manufactured for us by other American family businesses. These businesses, many of which have been manufacturing costume jewelry findings since the 1940’s and earlier, use vintage tooling to produce these findings and we are proud to be supporting this historic American industry. All of our contemporary antiqued brass and antiqued silver findings are nickel, lead and cadmium free.
Our customers are as unique as the supplies we sell to them. We have sold to jewelry artists, costumers, scrapbook artists, milliners, nail artists, interior designers, movie artists, mixed media artists and crafters of all sorts. Our uniquely gorgeous supplies can been found in Parisian art galleries and in your Aunt Millie’s designs. For some examples of the work our artistic and talented customers have created, please check out the “Featured Artist” section of our website.
